Supporter,
Donald Trump has shown us time and again — most notably during this week's impeachment acquittal — that
he believes he is above the law.
Nowhere is that more obvious than the Trump administration's release of its final plans for opening hundreds of thousands of acres in the Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments to dirty drilling and dangerous fracking — despite the court challenge still pending against the Trump administration's reduction of the monuments.
Supporter, make no mistake: while former Interior Secretary Ryan "Shrinky" Zinke is gone from the administration, his successor, former oil and gas lobbyist David Bernhardt, is just as potent a threat to our public lands.
This is an all-hands-on-deck moment:

Please, rush your emergency monthly gift to the Sierra Club now, before these magnificent national monuments are forever scarred by drills and fracking wells.
A refresher:
In 2018, despite 2.8
million
public comments opposing Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's recommendations, Trump made the decision to shrink archaeologically-rich Grand Staircase-Escalante by more than half, and Bears Ears, famous for its cultural history and sweeping vistas, by 85% — opening these previously protected lands to mining and energy development.
Local Tribes and the Sierra Club, alongside other partners, filed suits challenging the Administration's authority to shrink and undo a monument. With this latest announcement, Bernhardt's Interior is clearly trying to
open the floodgates to their Big Energy backers
before a court can overturn these egregious rollbacks.

We need your help NOW to stop them. Please rush an emergency monthly gift to the Sierra Club today, before the drills and saws roll into these iconic landscapes.
We're also supporting a bill introduced by Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego and New Mexico Rep. Deb Haaland that would restore and even expand Bears Ears National Monument protections, and bill that's been endorsed by the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition and others.
Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears bring critical recreation and tourism dollars to its surrounding communities, preserve rich cultural histories, while sheltering precious wildlife from bald eagles to bighorn sheep.

Please, help us stop the Trump administration's obsessive campaign to open these national treasures to coal and gas claims before it's too late.
With gratitude for your determination,
Michael Brune
Executive Director
