A year ago, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt signed into law a citizen-enforced total ban on abortion. Oklahoma became the only state in the U.S. to entirely outlaw abortion while Roe v. Wade still stood.

Abortion is now illegal in 13 states and severely restricted in 11 others, and the fight is far from over. Today, your support will empower us to fight for reproductive freedom at a time when our expertise and energy at the Center for Reproductive Rights are needed most. Here's how we fought back in Oklahoma, and what we are doing to keep the fight moving forward:

* Last year: We immediately filed lawsuits with partners seeking to block Oklahoma’s bans. A ruling in March 2023 said that the state constitution protects the right to abortion in life-threatening situations, but left abortion almost completely unavailable.

* This year: We published a study with partners that shows that not a single hospital in Oklahoma appears able to articulate clear, consistent policies for emergency obstetric care to pregnant patients. The situation in Oklahoma offers important insight into the health care crisis that total abortion bans cause for pregnant patients and the clinicians who care for them.

* What's next: Our team is preparing legal responses to further attacks on reproductive rights, including attempts by anti-abortion activists to remove abortion medication from the market.

We must protect abortion rights against these extreme attacks, and we need your continued support to do that. Please make an urgent gift to the Center for Reproductive Rights today as we continue to fight these dangerous bans. [[link removed]]

P.S. Oklahoma was the first, but not the last. Today, abortion is also illegal in Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia. We need your urgent support now. [[link removed]]
