One year since the massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, it remains clearer than ever that we need leaders who will take decisive action to protect our communities from gun violence.
Having to tell my own kids about a shooting before they hear it from their classmates is something I feel all too prepared to do. Sadly, it’s just part of being a parent in America.
And I know many other parents have to grapple with the same, impossible discussions. We have to live with the fact that our kids live with the fear that they could be gunned down while in a place where they should feel safe.
It’s unacceptable that in America, kids get hunted in their classrooms while our elected officials have done little to stop it.
To mark this somber occasion, will you sign your name here to recommit to fighting for common sense gun measures?
As a pediatrician who has seen so many kids in the hospital with gunshot wounds, I launched Their Future in large part to fight back against the inaction I was seeing in Congress on issues that will impact our kids’ lives.
The truth is we don’t have time to wait on the biggest issues of the day. We’re at a breaking point, which is why I’m fighting every day to make tangible progress.
My kids, and all of our children, deserve to live in a country without the constant fear of becoming another statistic in the never-ending list of school shootings. Each person — each child — lost is a life ended too soon and a future that will never come to fruition.
