John, today marks one year since 19 children and two teachers lost their lives in a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. My heart is with a community still grieving and especially with those families that will never be whole again.
As a parent, this is my worst nightmare, and it's something Aly and I think about every time we drop our boys off at daycare or anywhere else. The fear that something will happen never leaves us.
But it doesn't have to be this way. Parents should not have to send their kids to school worrying about whether they'll come home, and I refuse to accept that there is nothing we can do to make our schools and communities safer. The majority of Texans are with me on this – they support universal background checks and stronger red flag laws.
I also strongly believe this shouldn't be a political issue. Last year, in the weeks after this devastating shooting, Democrats and Republicans came together and passed major bipartisan gun violence legislation for the first time in 30 years – a critical first step in the right direction that I was proud to be a part of. Ted Cruz voted against it.
I'm running for Senate because I'm committed to ending the gun violence epidemic plaguing our country and holding self-serving, NRA-backed politicians like Ted Cruz accountable. Together, I know we can create the lifesaving change our children and communities desperately need.

Thank you,
Colin Allred
