Earlier this week the bipartisan House Ethics Committee closed an investigation of me based on a 2020 GOP allegation involving a campaign volunteer. For more than three years, Speaker McCarthy and MAGA Republicans tried to silence my advocacy in Congress by waging a public smear campaign.

Nearly ten years ago I assisted the FBI in their counterintelligence investigation of this campaign volunteer. At the time, the case and my assistance, were briefed to Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner and two years later, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan re-appointed me to the House Intelligence Committee. Neither Speaker questioned my actions nor politicized my cooperation.

The FBI has repeatedly said I was never under suspicion of wrongdoing and praised my cooperation with their investigation. In spite of all this, a House Republican filed a complaint with the House Ethics Committee.

The Committee had this case for more than two years. They had the power of subpoena. They received answers from me in response to requests for information. They closed the case and did not make a finding of wrongdoing.

It’s time to move on.

If the intent in bringing this complaint, taking me off the Intelligence Committee, and leveling false smears was to silence me, that is not going to happen.

I will continue to be a voice on behalf of my constituents and a passionate defender of democracy.
