In a historic push for transparency amidst skyrocketing prescription drug prices, Senator Braun has joined three of his Senate colleagues to advance the Delinking Revenue from Unfair Gouging (DRUG) Act for struggling Americans.
Currently, Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) act as the ‘middlemen’ between drug companies and pharmacies, negotiating discounted prices from drug manufacturers.
However, their revenue incentive structure is based on increased payment for negotiating/promoting/selling high-cost drugs, rather than their equally-efficacious, lower-cost generic drug equivalents.
In other words – the higher the cost of the drugs, the more money PBMs make. This incentive and payment structure is perverted, and not aligned with Americans who are seeking quality health care.
Senator Braun is working hard to put people over corporate/political profit. This bill is a step in the right direction to helping more Hoosiers and Americans across the country afford the lifesaving medications they need.
