[1]Ayanna Pressley
In the past
months I’ve joined forces with my friend Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley to
push for federal action on police brutality and accountability.
While the issue of police brutality has gone in and out of the focus of
the media and many politicians over the years, communities of color
continue to live with the reality of unaccountable law enforcement. That’s
why I was proud to join Rep. Pressley in introducing legislation that
would eliminate the unjust and court-invented doctrine of qualified
immunity.
Qualified immunity shields law enforcement officers from accountability
for police brutality and excessive force, far too often suffered by Black
and Brown Americans, by making it nearly impossible for officers to face
lawsuits and personal liability for their abuses.
The movement to do away with qualified immunity and finally give victims
of brutality and their families their day in court has found new momentum
as some Democrats have ended the doctrine at the state level. Now we need
to bring that success nationwide and get our new legislation through
Congress.
One of the best ways to help us push for this important legislation is to
join us in building an unstoppable, grassroots, progressive movement that
will help us put bottom-up pressure on our colleagues in the House and the
Senate to end this dangerous doctrine.
Rep. Pressley and I are both committed to building that progressive
movement and putting issues like qualified immunity front and center. And
we both power our campaigns through small contributions from regular folks
like you.
It would mean a lot if you could show your support for this bill and help
keep us in the fight. So, before I go any further I have to ask:
[ [link removed] ]Can you split a $3 contribution, or whatever you can
afford, between my campaign and Ayanna Pressley? Help power two campaigns
that are fighting for accountable law enforcement in every community in
this nation.

I hope we can count on your support in this important fight for justice
for all.
In solidarity,
Senator Ed Markey
