Safer, easier recycling for South King County
Our Solid Waste Division hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its South County Recycling and Transfer Station in Algona. The state-of-the-art station will make it safer and easier for South King County households and businesses to recycle materials, compost yard waste, and dispose hazardous materials, contributing to our Re+ initiative to cut countywide greenhouse gas emissions.

Success for people, salmon, orcas on the Cedar River
Our Water and Land Resources Division completed a major project that restored a nearly mile-long segment of the Cedar River to a more natural state, simultaneously reducing flood risks, improving salmon habitat, and providing more food for Puget Sound orcas. Our Public Affairs team received awards in four categories from the National Association of Government Communicators, the most prestigious awards in our industry. We received 1st place awards for Working Without a Net category for a hosting a dual livestream aboard our research vessel, SoundGuardian. We also won 1st place for our news release announcing Executive Constantine’s proposal to rapidly accelerate King County’s capacity to protect open space.
