Deputy Leader Cllr Audra Wynter banner
Proud to serve as new Deputy Leader
Nottingham skyline
My name is Councillor Audra Wynter and I am proud and privileged to be the first female black Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Finance and HR.
Since being elected in 2019 as a councillor for Bestwood, Bestwood Park and Top Valley, I have seen first hand the challenges people in our city are facing. The last four years have seen everybody?s household bills rising considerably and local authorities continue to struggle with reduced funding from central Government.
Nottingham is where I was born, raised, educated and have always worked. For the last 29 years I have primarily been involved with social housing providers, local start-ups and support programmes to help people with budgeting and debt management. I hope this experience will be valuable in supporting the council to deliver on the priorities that matter to you, including support with the cost of living crisis, providing new homes for local people and growing the local economy to create more opportunities for local people.
The council has also been on a very important improvement journey over the last few years and I will continue to work with the Leader Cllr David Mellen and the wider Executive to ensure we are delivering balanced budgets and high-quality public services that people in our city rely on.
I would like to end my first edition by paying tribute to my predecessor, Cllr Adele Williams. She has been very supportive during this transition period and I am very grateful for her advice as I take on this new role. I am all too aware of the responsibility I am taking on and very humbled by the opportunity to serve you in this role.

Handy tips to help you be ?Tick Aware?
Ticvk awareness
As the weather starts to heat up, it?s important to be ?tick aware.? Ticks are small, spiderlike creatures that feed on the blood of animals, including people and some tick bites can result in infection, which could make you feel ill.
You could be exposed to ticks whenever you spend time outdoors, including when in your garden or the local park, but they are often found in woodland, and near shrubs, or tall grass. You can help can reduce the chance of being bitten by walking on clearly defined paths, using insect repellent and performing regular tick checks.
If you find a tick on your body, it?s important to remove it safely and as quickly as possible by using a pair of fine-tipped tweezers or a tick removal tool, grasping the tick as close to the skin as possible, being careful not to crush it, and pull upwards slowly and firmly. Once it has all been removed, including any mouthparts, clean the bite area with an antibacterial wash or soap and water, and monitor it for several weeks for any changes.
And don?t forget, if you begin to feel unwell with flu-like symptoms, persistent headache, confusion, or develop a spreading circular red rash please contact your GP or NHS 111.

Fostering team on Parkrun
Foster team at Parkrun
Four of the City Council's fostering team were out last Saturday to raise awareness of the need for foster carers in the city.? As part of Foster Care Fortnight, a Foster Walk took place where people who work in fostering are encouraged to get out and enjoy a healthy way to promote the need for carers.
The Forest Rec Parkrun was a convenient place to make it happen because the 5km route is marked out and marshalled. Lucy Daibell, Julie Proctor, Lara Kennedy and Naeem Rashid from the team walked and ran the course.
Lucy and Julie have also? been running information pop-ups in the city?s leisure centres to attract enquiries about fostering. With over 700 children in the care of the council, the need for foster carers has never been greater.
