Where do the Labour leadership and deputy candidates stand on public ownership? We emailed them all a couple of weeks ago to find out.
The candidates didn't all sign up straight away to our pledges on rail, mail, water, energy, buses, schools, justice, the NHS, council services and broadband.
But by the end of the day on Monday, all four leadership candidates had signed all 10 pledges! Result!
Of course this doesn’t mean we can trust whoever is the new Labour leader to push forward the agenda of public services for people not profit. But it gives us a promise we can hold them to in the future.
When it comes to public ownership, we need to make the case loud and clear
That it can help us tackle climate crisis and inequality
But we’ve got a good starting point. Public ownership is extremely popular amongst Leavers and Remainers, old and young, across regions, social classes and political divides. A majority of Tory voters want public ownership of rail and water. Politicians who ignore this reality are missing a trick.
