John, For decades, Minnesotans have shown up, day after day, session after session, asking for the Legislature to take action on the most urgent issues of our time – from protecting reproductive rights to combating climate change to giving our kids the investments they deserve. At the beginning of this year, I said the era of gridlock in Saint Paul was over – and I meant it. Moments ago, I signed a transformational budget into law that will leave a generational impact on our state. Our One Minnesota Budget will lower everyday costs for Minnesota families, dramatically cut child poverty, and improve people’s lives in every corner of the state. We’re going to send checks up to $1,300 back to families. We’re going to get the lead out of your homes. We’re going to put money behind child care so that middle-class families can go to work. We’re going to put resources behind the educators that teach our children. We’re going to rebuild our roads. And we’re going to make Minnesota the fourth state to end veteran homelessness. John, none of this could have happened without this team and the people-powered victories DFLers won up and down the ballot last November. No other state has done this much for working families in this short of time. Because of you, Minnesota is leading the nation. But our work isn’t over. Extreme Republicans are more emboldened than ever to retake power and roll back the historic progress we’ve made together over the past five months. That’s why, with our first end-of-month deadline since the end of the legislative session coming up next Wednesday, we must seize the moment and prove that we’re not going anywhere.
