**Dallas Needs a Separate Downtown Police Force**

**Dallas needs to move from 3,000 peace officers to 4,000 and Dallas
needs its own Separate Police force Just for Downtown**

Calls for service are up, but the number of police officers to respond
to those calls are down. "It’s a national staffing crisis in law
enforcement. There is no question about it,” said Dallas Police Chief
Eddie Garcia. Dallas police needs at least 600 patrol officers to be at
full staff.

Like most police departments, DPD is struggling to recruit and retain
officers. Currently, 27% of the Dallas police force is eligible for
retirement, so the city is working on retaining them. DPD is offering
officers with 28 years or more experience an extra $40,000 to stay an
extra two years.

DPD hopes to get back to those higher staffing levels, otherwise, Garcia
and Smith said, it will be harder to keep the crime rate down without
more officers.

DFW Bankers Optimistic as 'Texas Businesses are Strong'**

MCBA Member Company, Vertex Community Bank, CEO Malcolm Holland,
said" The biggest risk and a valid concern when it comes to the Fed is
that they do not unilaterally insure all deposits. Doing so would have a
calming effect across the industry. While Veritex understands the need
to balance the fight against inflation, we also know that we are
fortunate to be in Texas where business is strong. Veritex Community
Bank is fortunate that we have a very diversified customer base. Our
customers are the businesses and people who make up the communities in
which we live and work.
