Dear John,
"In America, we do not punish prayer. We do not tear down crosses. We do not ban symbols of faith. We do not muzzle preachers and pastors. In America, we celebrate faith. We cherish religion. We lift our voices in prayer, and we raise our sights to the Glory of God!"
In the midst of a powerful and inspiring State of the Union speech Tuesday night by President Trump that touched on all that makes America great, this moment stood out clear and bright. The president rightfully highlighted this aspect that is at the heart of what makes our nation exceptional.
It is our First Amendment right to live according to our faith that upholds all our other freedoms as Americans.
Unfortunately, another moment from the night also caught the attention of the nation. As the applause on his closing remarks were still going, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) stood up behind President Trump and theatrically tore up her copy of the speech!
This unprecedented act of disrespect has garnered a lot attention and analysis from pundits and commentators... but her actions should really come as no surprise. What Pelosi did is a perfect picture of what the radical Left is attempting to do to the foundations of our nation every day.
The far-Left wants to rip apart:
- The rights of parents to determine what, when, and how their children are taught about sex, marriage, and other values issues;
- The rights of women and girls to safety and privacy -- and to not be forced to share their bathrooms, dressing rooms, and locker rooms with biological males;
- The rights of faith-based businesses and organizations to operate according to orthodox biblical values;
- The rights of pro-life Americans to not have their tax dollars pay for abortions or fund abortion providers;
- The rights of believers to live out their faith in every aspect of their lives, including the workplace;
- And much, much more.
In effect, there are many on the Left who want to tear apart the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the authority of God's Word.
But Family Research Council will never back down. We will not waver in our stand for biblical truth and will continue advancing the freedom of all Americans to live out their faith without fear of punishment or government retribution.
