We shouldn't undermine core environmental laws

Dear John,
You have probably heard about the debt ceiling fight happening in Washington, D.C. What you may not be aware of is some House members are pushing to rollback our core environmental laws under the guise of permitting “reform.” They are using the must-pass debt ceiling legislation as misguided leverage to undermine the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Water Act, and Clean Air Act that are vital for protecting public health and our environment.
Please ask your members of Congress to oppose efforts that would undermine our core environmental laws. ([link removed])
NEPA exists to ensure that the government makes decisions that are smart from the start, responsive to community concerns, and protective of our shared environment and community health and safety. Rolling back our environmental review standards would set us back in the climate fight by obscuring key information about climate change effects from the public and government decisionmakers.
Gutting NEPA and other bedrock environmental laws is unacceptable.
Tell Congress: “Say no” to any debt ceiling deal that includes backsliding on protecting in our environmental laws. ([link removed])
Thank you,
Howard Learner
Executive Director
