Dear Friend,

You may know there are several birth control methods sold over-the-counter (OTC) without the need for a prescription. What you may not know is that OTC methods can be expensive, and in many places are not covered by insurance without a prescription.

You can help change that.

Urge your members of Congress to support the Affordability is Access Act, a bill requiring insurance companies to cover all FDA approved birth control methods that are sold OTC without the requirement of a prescription. This means insurers would have to cover internal and external condoms, sponges, spermicide, and hopefully soon, the first FDA approved OTC birth control pill.

This is important because while more than 19 million women with low-incomes live in contraceptive deserts, nearly 90% of people in the U.S. live within five miles of a community pharmacy where they could potentially access OTC methods. Please help make this a reality. Urge your members of Congress to support the Affordability is Access Act today so that those who want to use OTC birth control methods have the coverage they need to affordably access them.

Best,
Tara
