As wildfires blaze and global temperatures rise, climate scientists link them to intense fossil fuel emissions.

While people across the nation brace for another record-breaking summer season and wonder how much worse things can get, the fossil fuel industry continues to wreak havoc on our political system and our planet.

With each passing day, fossil fuel companies rack up obscene profits to line their pockets. Instead of doing the right thing and taking the steps necessary to actually transition our economy off of fossil fuels, they invest those profits — in campaign contributions to leaders on both sides of the aisle, on lobbyists whose sole job is to convince elected leaders to vote for legislation that prioritizes them over their constituents, and, of course, in continuing to expand fossil fuel infrastructure to squeeze out every drop of oil and gas in every nook and cranny.

What’s more, they spend millions of dollars every year on deceiving the public into thinking that they are responsible corporate citizens offering a necessary service while working hard to make themselves look as clean and green as possible.

They know as well as any of us that this cannot last forever. One day enough people will realize what they’re doing, why they’re doing it, and how much they’re lying about it. We need to do everything that we can to make sure that that day happens sooner than later.

We cannot sit idly by as the fossil fuel industry spends millions of dollars to strengthen their influence on our political system.

We need to elect climate champions unafraid to speak out against Big Oil’s atrocities and do everything in their power to protect our future, but we cannot do it alone.
