The Department of Health and Human Services recently proposed a new rule that would strengthen the privacy protections under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act -- more commonly known as HIPAA.

But these urgently-needed privacy protections haven't gone into effect yet. The Biden administration is first collecting public comments about this proposed rule, and the deadline is just a few weeks away.
