Traffic stops are the most common contact between police and the public and have little to do with improving safety or preventing dangerous driving. These stops aren’t making our communities safer. They breed fear. In the worst cases, they kill us.
Study after study shows that Black drivers are more likely to get pulled over in minor traffic stops. Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Daunte Wright, and Tyre Nichols all died because of traffic stops. They should be alive today.
