Hi John,
On Thursday, I was at the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) hearing late into the night waiting for committee members to vote on the amount of funding in the state budget to allocate to PFAS clean up.
Our advocacy made an impact: JFC proposed $125 million in funding!
Addressing the issue of PFAS contamination is long overdue. Although communities across the state have been dealing with the health crises from these forever chemicals for years, Republicans have repeatedly stripped this funding from past state budgets. But conservation voters like you refused to give up. We have continued to push our elected leaders to act, and we’re finally seeing some progress. As excited as I am about this funding vote, I know it’s just a start. We still have to pass legislation so this funding can be spent, and work to ensure it is distributed to communities equitably, efficiently, and effectively. |
