Legislative Update
The legislative session has come to an end and it was one of the busiest ones during my time in the legislature. We dedicated ourselves to working through the weekend to ensure that all the budget bills were processed within our constitutional deadline.
While there have been a number of challenges this session, there were some highlights agreed to at the end of session thanks to the hard work of Republicans in both chambers. One measure I?m very proud of is successfully negotiating much-needed nursing home funding to save our struggling care providers. Throughout the past few years, we?ve been hearing from our nursing homes that they can?t keep up with rising costs on their current reimbursement structure which can be delayed by as much as 18 months. This $300 million will help nursing homes across the state keep their doors open and our most vulnerable cared for. I am proud Republicans were able to step up to protect our seniors when the majority would not.
Another accomplishment of this legislative session was getting legislation to add consumer protections to non-bank mortgage providers. This bipartisan legislation adds important safeguards for home buyers no matter their mortgage provider. The bill was passed unanimously with a vote of 126-0.
I?m glad we?ve finished this legislative session and can all head back to our districts. My email updates will slow down a bit this summer as I attend more in-district events, but hopefully, that means we can catch up face-to-face. I hope you have a wonderful summer, and as always please feel free to reach out with any legislative concerns and share your thoughts.
