On the latest “From Combat to Congress,” I recognized our brave men and women in blue during National Police Week, delivered an exciting update on my pro-police legislation, H.J.Res. 42, and explained how Congress will hold the corrupt FBI accountable.

Stunning reports have unveiled how the U.S. Navy hired an active-duty servicemember who doubles as a drag queen to join its “Digital Ambassador” program to boost recruitment efforts. Troublingly, the drag queen shares his disturbing content on various social media sites, including the Chinese Communist Party-influenced app, TikTok — which was banned from official devices by the U.S. Navy in 2019. Furthermore, it’s very concerning that the Navy, which is projected to be short of its Fiscal Year 2023 goal for enlisted Sailors by 8,000 recruits, is advancing woke policies to allegedly improve its recruiting crisis. Our servicemembers should be solely focused on maintaining the most deadly military force in the world, not dressing up in drag. A woke military is a weak military, which is why it’s imperative that we rid our Armed Services of radical policies that both hinder recruiting and retention efforts and threaten our national security.

As a 28-year Navy combat veteran, I’m displeased and greatly disappointed with the Navy’s decision to not only allow this individual to represent our heroic Sailors, but to promote his drag queen activities as part of the Navy’s recruiting efforts. Due to my serious concerns, I led 9 of my House Republican Navy veteran colleagues in sending a letter to U.S. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro demanding answers as to whether taxpayer dollars funded the implementation of the Navy’s “Digital Ambassador” program, as well as how the Navy plans to address its recruitment and retention crisis. Please know that I will keep fighting wokeness in our military through the appropriations process, and I will continue calling on the Biden Administration to refocus its efforts on bolstering our Armed Services and strengthening our defense capabilities.

Last month, my resolution to repeal the D.C. Council’s disastrous legislation that puts criminals first and cops last passed the House with bipartisan support. And last week, on National Police Week, Congress had the unique opportunity to not just say we back the blue, but to actually take a stand against the Council’s misguided law that severely hinders the ability of police officers in Washington from protecting and serving the American people.

On Tuesday, with the help of my Senate co-lead, Senator JD Vance (R-OH), the Senate passed my bill, H.J.Res. 42, with bipartisan support — sending a resounding message that Congress will always support our nation’s brave law enforcement officers. This is an incredible victory, as the Council’s deceptive legislation has dangerously obstructed the Metropolitan Police Department’s ability to both effectively protect Americans in Washington and recruit and retain officers. Speaker Kevin McCarthy signed my legislation on Thursday, May 18th, sending the measure to President Biden's desk.

Now that Congress has used its constitutional authority to strike down the Council’s severely misguided law, it’s up to President Biden to abandon his veto threat and sign H.J.Res. 42 into law. Failure to do so will not only worsen Washington’s crime crisis by having fewer officers on the force, but will also demonstrate that the President favors emboldening violent criminals over supporting our brave men and women in blue.

Please join me in congratulating the University of North Georgia (UNG) Softball Team as they secured the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional crown by defeating No. 17 Wingate Bulldogs last week! The Nighthawks will now make their third consecutive appearance at the NCAA Division II Championships, heading to the Frost Stadium at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As one of the remaining eight teams vying for the national title, I wish the Nighthawks the best of luck in their matchup against the East Stroudsburg Warriors this Thursday!

Additionally, as Speaker McCarthy continues to meet with President Biden to reach a deal on the debt limit, please know that my House Freedom Caucus colleagues and I will keep holding the line to ensure the debt ceiling is addressed in a fiscally responsible manner. We firmly believe that House Republicans’ Limit, Save, Grow Act should not be watered down in negotiations, as this legislation avoids default, cuts reckless spending, and implements pro-growth reforms. Since House Republicans have done our job, it’s simply time for the Senate and White House to do theirs by passing and signing our sensible debt ceiling solution into law to avoid a disastrous financial crisis.
