In the days, months, and now years since Breonna Taylor’s murder at the hands of police who shot into her apartment while she slept, Kentucky’s Attorney General, Daniel Cameron, refused to charge the police officers involved. He led what grand jurors have since called a “sham” investigation into charges against the police; limiting the scope of the investigation and refusing to allow homicide charges against the officers.
The whole nation was horrified by Breonna Taylor’s death, and she and her family have yet to receive justice. This was yet another tragedy that signaled to police officers and citizens across the country that police are unlikely to ever be held accountable for their actions. In fact, just last month, one of the infamous officers was hired by a nearby sheriff’s office and is back to work as deputy sheriff.
While Daniel Cameron is now vying to be Governor of Kentucky, Republican Russell Coleman won last week’s GOP primary and will be running against our candidate Pam Stevenson for the role of Attorney General. Coleman is an anti-choice extremist who is endorsed by Kentucky Right to Life and many other extremist groups and people. He has also accepted thousands of dollars from opioid lobbyists.
Kentucky has never had a woman Attorney General – but the state needs female leadership now more than ever, especially as abortion is now almost completely banned statewide.
