John,
Last week, we told you we would be cutting through the noise and highlighting some of what was accomplished in the 2023 legislative session.
We’re continuing that today, telling you everything you need to know about how Governor Eric Holcomb and statehouse Republicans prioritized education and empowered parents this session. |
Indiana’s newest biennial budget will invest almost $2.3 billion in new dollars for K-12 education, increasing the K-12 tuition support formula by $1.5 billion over the current level. That $1.5 billion increase will empower local public schools to reach our goal of achieving a statewide average teacher salary of $60,000.
And to further empower parents, the legislature expanded school choice options to give families more opportunities to choose the schools that they feel are best for their kids.
But that’s not all. This session the legislature also:
- Removed the hidden tax on Hoosier parents by eliminating textbook and curriculum fees for more than 1 million students.
-
Expanded work-based learning, allowing high school students to gain experience outside the classroom that can count toward graduation requirements.
- Increased access to state scholarship programs for future teachers and doubled the funding for Next Generation Hoosier Educators.
John, these are just a few of the ways Governor Holcomb and statehouse Republicans took action this session to prioritize education. — Indiana GOP
