Woman Dies Weeks After Being Shot By Neighbor In WeHo Apartment

A woman who was shot when a neighbor opened fire inside a West Hollywood apartment complex in April has died, her son told NBC4. Larisa Pereshivaylova, a 57-year-old nurse, died Sunday, according to her 21-year-old son, Max Buydakov. After the shooting – in which she was struck twice – Pereshivaylova was diagnosed with liver cancer, for which she was not able to seek treatment due to her injuries, Buydakov said. Her son said one bullet damaged her kidney, liver and spine, and the other landed in her neck. “She was my pillar of support, both mentally, emotionally, financially,” Buydakov said. The sheriff’s department said that on April 7, Joshua Findlay, Pereshivaylova’s neighbor across the hall, fired multiple shots in his unit at the Dylan Apartment Complex. The bullets went through the wall and hit Pereshivaylova in the kitchen next door as she was cooking breakfast. Buydakov said his mother called 911 and then called him. As emergency responders rushed Pereshivaylova to the hospital, dozens of deputies, the SWAT team and a sheriff’s department helicopter tried to get Findley into custody.

City Council Slated To Vote On Controversial LAPD `Robot Dog’

The City Council Tuesday is slated to vote on a twice-delayed proposal to accept the donation of a controversial so-called robot dog for use by the LAPD — an issue that has caused protests from critics of the department and concern among some council members. On May 5, council members moved to push the vote until Tuesday morning, citing a need for more time to consider the proposed donation of the $277,917 “Quadruped Unmanned Ground Vehicle.” It is being offered as a donation to the LAPD’s Metropolitan Division by the Los Angeles Police Foundation. Hugh Esten, a spokesman for Council President Paul Krekorian, said Monday that the robot is scheduled for a vote Tuesday, and that he did not think the matter would be held over again. But Esten also noted that an agenda item can be continued indefinitely. “Without continuation votes, an item expires in two years but a continuation vote is a council action and can keep an agenda item alive,” Esten told City News Service in an email.

Off-Duty North Carolina Deputy Spots Familiar Face At Grocery Store: A Wanted Murder Suspect

A sharp-eyed deputy was shopping when he spotted a murder suspect in a North Carolina grocery store, officials said. The deputy recognized 63-year-old Kenneth Alan Stout, who was considered a “dangerous” fugitive after the “suspicious” death of Barbara Baker. Someone was looking for her when her body was found last month in the Beartown area, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office of West Virginia said in a news conference video that WCHS shared online April 28. During the search for Stout, U.S. Marshals Service released a wanted poster and announced $15,000 in rewards for information leading to his capture. Federal officials said Stout had a violent past and believed he was looking for job as a handyman or trying to exploit Black churches while on the run. Stout had ties to cities across the Southeast, and officials reported losing track of him in South Carolina. Then, more than a month after the April 1 homicide, Stout was caught about 375 miles from the West Virginia crime scene, officials said. He was found after a cop near the North Carolina coast reportedly spotted a familiar face during his May 6 grocery run.
