The TPS program was specifically created to safeguard individuals from countries deemed unsafe to return. Granting TPS to Mali would allow individuals to stay with their families and communities, without fear of deportation to a dangerous environment.

Friend,

The African country of Mali is currently experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to armed conflict, political instability, and rampant human rights abuses.

“Our families are fleeing because they are afraid their village will be the next to be attacked by armed groups.” - Anonymous civilian from Mali

Deporting individuals and families back to Mali right now would mean knowingly sending them to a country where human rights violations are widespread, including summary killings, forced disappearances, torture, arbitrary arrests, ethnically targeted crimes, gender-based violence, and the recruitment of child soldiers. Immediate action is needed from the Biden Administration to grant temporary protections to thousands of Malians living in the United States who cannot safely return to their home country.

Please read and share our latest policy brief, “Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Mali," and spread the word about the dire situation in Mali and the urgent need for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation. [link removed]

The situation in Mali is highly unstable, with the number of internally displaced people increasing by nearly 1,000% in recent years, and over 10,000 lives lost as a direct result of ongoing violence. Returning families and individuals to Mali would expose them to pervasive violence and human rights violations — even death.

The Biden Administration has the power to prevent such tragedies by designating Mali for TPS, a program specifically created to safeguard individuals from countries deemed unsafe to return. Granting TPS to Mali would allow these individuals to stay with their families, live in their communities, and be free from the fear of deportation to a dangerous environment.

Please read, share, and spread the word to increase awareness of the urgent need for TPS designation for Mali. [link removed]
