Hi,

The United Nations Environment Programme is currently developing a Global Plastics Treaty that holds the key to combating plastic pollution and shaping a cleaner future.

However, the United States’ stance poses a significant obstacle to genuine reform. The U.S. opposes two fundamental criteria: extended producer responsibility and mandates on production reduction. Furthermore, our government fails to acknowledge the detrimental effects associated with the entire life cycle of plastic.

Should we allow out country to maintain this position, we would be dooming the treaty to failure. The absence of unified action, resulting from an individualized treaty, will fragment the international community precisely when unity is needed most.

It is imperative that we do not permit the United States to determine our fate in regard to plastic pollution. Now is the time to exert pressure on our government and urge them to join the Global Plastics Treaty. <[link removed]>

The Global Plastics Treaty represents our greatest opportunity to effectively address the issue of plastic pollution. As citizens of the United States, we possess the power to eliminate plastic waste by demanding that our government fully supports this ambitious but critical treaty.

This treaty has the potential to restore the cleanliness of our oceans, the purity of our air, and the well-being of our lives. We must not allow the United States' inclination to shield petrochemical companies to jeopardize the welfare of its citizens and the health of our planet.

Raise your voice and make your stance clear: We demand a robust and influential Global Plastics Treaty that challenges us to strive for a better future. <[link removed]>

In solidarity,

Kathleen Rogers

President
