Dear John,
On Sunday night, I told you that the so-called Equal Rights Amendment was being amended to make it even more pro-abortion, and that it was on the schedule for yesterday, the last day of the 2023 legislative session.
I have great news: legislators did NOT pass the ERA before the end of the legislative session last night. That means it is almost certainly dead for this year.
Let's take a moment to praise God that this radically pro-abortion amendment was NOT passed yesterday. Though we've seen many things this legislative session we hoped we never would see, there have been victories here and there - and this is one of them.
Make no mistake, the ERA is a major priority for progressives within the DFL, and we expect to see it again next legislative session, probably with the extreme abortion language that we alerted you to on Sunday. We’ll be ready when it comes. But for now, let's rejoice and thank God that He saw fit to keep that bill from coming to the floor yesterday.
I also want to thank our policy and legal team, our pastor team and prayer warriors, and our stalwart legislative allies, who were fighting an uphill battle since the day they were sworn in in January.
I especially want to thank YOU--everyone who has taken grassroots action by sending a message to your legislators or showing up at the Capitol with us. Thank you for putting YOUR values into action!
You'll hear more from my team and me about what all happened during this incredibly consequential legislative session, and what it means for our state going forward.
Let's thank God and rejoice in the victories--even small ones--He provided this session, and ask for His mercy on our state now and in the years to come.
