As we mobilize nationwide for the MAGA Default Crisis Week of Action -- from California to Virginia, New York to Oregon, North Carolina to Minnesota -- the urgency to act is growing exponentially. The Treasury Department projects that we’ll only be able to pay the US government's bills through June 1 without a debt limit increase. That means we’re only nine days away from default -- and the worldwide economic catastrophe it would create. 

There’s still a way to stop the crisis: House Democrats have introduced a Discharge Petition, which is an escape hatch to bring a clean default prevention bill to the House floor, even if Kevin McCarthy tries to block it. But in order to work, 218 Members of Congress must sign on and refuse to negotiate on cuts that will hurt our communities.

If you have a Democratic representative, urge them to stand with President Biden, support the Discharge Petition, and do everything they can to line up the 218 representatives needed to sign on and refuse to negotiate on cuts that will hurt our communities.

And if you have a Republican representative, demand that they end the hostage-taking and the cruel cuts to public schools, Medicaid, veterans’ benefits, and other life-saving programs that our communities rely on, and instead do the bare minimum of paying the government’s bills.
