Dear Friend,
This is the time of year when we celebrate graduates completing one chapter of their lives and preparing for a new one. Let me take this moment to congratulate all of those graduating and express appreciation to their families and friends for supporting them.
A week ago, I joined the University of Colorado Law School for its graduation ceremonies. The Class of 2023 welcomed me as its commencement speaker, and I shared a few thoughts on how I navigated my career—accepting setbacks as learning opportunities, giving myself permission to take chances, and embracing the value of mentors. You can read my speech here [[link removed]] , including my reference to Milwaukee Bucks basketball star Giannis Antetokounmpo’s recent remarks on how, if you are trying and learning, you are always a winner.
The week before I joined a group of cadets graduating from the Colorado Mountain College Law Enforcement academy. In my remarks to them, I talked about our commitment to redesigning the law enforcement academy curriculum around a set of core values. That speech is here [[link removed]] . Picking up on our work, the Durango Herald [[link removed]] recently embraced our vision for an improved training curriculum. Improving law enforcement training remains a top priority for our team at the Attorney General’s Office.
As a lifelong learner and an educator, I believe in the power of education and supporting those launching new careers. At the Colorado’s Attorney General’s Office, we embrace our role as mentors, hiring high school and college interns, post-college graduates, and post-graduate fellows, and focusing on how we can create opportunities for a new generation of professionals.
Thank you for helping us support future public servants, and congratulations to all graduates!
Cheers,
Phil
