Amazon, don't put profits over people and planet

Green American, Tell Amazon Enough is ENOUGH!

Amazon, the world’s largest retailer, is a leader in harming people and the planet. Its extractive and destructive business practices have led to growing dissent from investors and consumers.

Tomorrow, a coalition of shareholder activists are leading the charge to call for reform at Amazon’s annual shareholders’ meeting. They have filed resolutions calling on Amazon to address its largest source of climate pollution, its plastic pollution, its union busting and discriminatory employment practices, and its complicity in human rights abuses.

Can you join them to make sure consumers’ voices are heard LOUD and CLEAR?

What is wrong with Amazon?

  • Contrary to the company’s public climate commitment, Amazon increased its CO2 pollution 40% from 2019 to 2021. And this is likely a gross under estimation since Amazon only discloses the impacts from the sale of its Amazon-branded products, which are only 1 percent of its sales.

  • Amazon generated an estimated 599 million pounds of plastic packaging waste in 2020.

  • More than 34,000 Amazon workers sustained serious injuries on the job, more than double the rate for workers at non-Amazon warehouses, leading to an attrition that costs Amazon $8 billion annually.

  • The National Labor Relations Board is investigating Amazon for illegally intimidating and harassing employees who try to unionize and found that Amazon illegally fired workers leading unionization efforts.

  • Amazon’s cloud service, AWS, is hosting and sharing dangerous surveillance and biometric data collection by DHS, that puts millions of people, especially immigrants and communities of color, at risk of invasion of privacy, and assault on human rights.

Let Amazon’s executives and board of directors know you’ve had enough and pledge to not shop at Amazon on May 24th, 2023, in solidarity with shareholders calling for accountability at Amazon for our planet, human rights, and workers’ rights.

In solidarity,
