My friend,
Earlier this year, I started my second term as Secretary of State. Across the country, we continue to witness the coordinated attack on American democracy. The opportunity to continue to fight for our democracy as Secretary of State is an honor.
Last month, I spoke about [[link removed]] how restricting voting access enables extremist elected officials to pass oppressive policies to restrict our rights. Abortion access, women's rights, and equal rights depend on The People's ability to cast a ballot in free and fair elections. Protecting the right to vote and protecting our environment also go hand in hand. Access to the ballot box ensures communities can elect leaders who will put people over polluters. The Texas Senate recently passed a bill to allow the secretary of state to overturn Harris County elections. Watch my interview on this attempt to subvert elections here [[link removed]] .
P art of strengthening our democracy means protecting election workers. Last year, I led a new Colorado law to protect election workers from threats and intimidation. And I recently called on Congress to follow Colorado’s lead and pass federal legislation to protect election workers in every state. These Americans are the unsung heroes of democracy, putting in countless hours behind the scenes to ensure every eligible voter can make their voice heard. This legislative session, several of my priorities passed including a new law that protects business owners from deceptive solicitations [[link removed]] , expanding voting access on Tribal lands, and automatic voter registration with Tribal membership lists. All eligible Coloradans deserve voting access!
As Secretary of State, I will always work to ensure Colorado remains a strong democracy and great place to run a business.
