I'll cut to the chase, John -- last week was a big one for abortion rights. Here's what happened:

- TWO states just approved restrictive abortion bans: North Carolina and Nebraska. South Carolina is working on its own even tougher ban, which just passed the state House and is headed to the Republican-controlled state Senate. Bans in both Carolinas would make Virginia the last Southern state without abortion restrictions -- and force Southern patients to travel even further to receive care.

- A federal appeals court heard arguments about access to mifepristone, and appears poised to side with the anti-choice extremists who launched the original lawsuit. This comes nearly six weeks after a conservative district court judge ordered the FDA to pull its decades-long approval of mifepristone, and about five weeks after the Supreme Court blocked that judge's ruling.

- We'll end with some good news: Michigan Gov. (and longtime EMILYs List candidate!) Gretchen Whitmer signed legislation prohibiting companies from retaliating against employees who seek or receive abortions. This is a perfect example of why it's so important to elect pro-choice fighters like Gov. Whitmer everywhere.

I've said it a thousand times before and I'll say it a thousand times again: the best way to restore, protect, and expand abortion rights across the country is to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot, all across the country.
