John,
Slack has failed to implement common-sense features that protect user privacy and safety, such as end-to-end encryption, blocking and reporting, which could have massive consequences for some people using the platform.
Sign the letter demanding Slack put user privacy and security first. Tell them to Make Slack Safe.
Take Action
With the reversal of Roe v Wade, and a number of states in the U.S. passing laws restricting bodily autonomy, unprotected Slack messages could be used to criminalize abortions and other actions. While Slack says that it only provides user data to law enforcement when it is legally required to do so, in states where abortion is being criminalized, law enforcement can and will use subpoenas to force Slack to hand over the internal messages of abortion funds, abortion providers, and individuals who use Slack to message friends, family and coworkers.
Tell Slack to stop endangering abortion seekers and providers.
In addition to threatening the safety of abortion seekers and providers, Slack has refused to add features that allow people to block other users or report content.1 No one should have to put up with abusive communications on an online platform – especially one that many people can’t opt out of for their jobs or community groups. With online harassment on the rise, it’s more important than ever that Slack gets in line with other major companies offering these basic safety tools.2
As a leader in the online communications industry, with millions of users worldwide, Slack has an enormous responsibility to build protection for people’s rights and safety into its platform. We're partnering with a large, diverse list of rights organizations to call on Slack to make these critical changes, and we’ll be delivering our letter this week. Add your name now to make sure you’re included!
Thank you for all you do.
