I spoke yesterday about being disappointed in some of my Senate colleagues and how they conducted themselves during this impeachment trial.
Fortunately, I also have colleagues like Doug Jones of Alabama who did the hard thing and the right thing. Wednesday, Sen. Jones voted to convict President Trump on both impeachment charges. And now -- in a race that was already considered one of the most competitive in 2020 -- his opponents and their megadonors are raising and spending big to oust him for his righteous vote.
The path to flipping the Senate is clear, and it starts with protecting courageous but vulnerable senators like Doug Jones.

It was disheartening to see all but two of my Republican colleagues vote last week against allowing additional witnesses in President Trump's impeachment trial.

I can't overstate the gravity of what we've seen in Congress over the past few weeks. In 220 years of constitutional precedent and my 45 years of service in this body, we -- this country, you, and I -- have never seen anything like it. I hope we can stand together and demand something better. Because, as Rep. Adam Schiff said in his closing statements on Monday, "He [President Trump] has betrayed our national security, and he will do so again."
