Aloha John,

May is AANHPI Heritage Month, when we recognize and honor the significant historical, social, and cultural impact that generations of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders have made to our country. Our country’s AANHPI community includes over 45 ethnicities and more than 100 language dialects, and continues to be the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States.

As the first Asian American woman elected to the Senate — and the only immigrant currently serving in the chamber — I have never been more aware of the importance of representation. I’ll explain more in a moment, but first, will you split a donation of any amount between my reelection campaign and HER Time so we can preserve our razor-thin Senate majority and continue fighting for justice and equality for all? For most of my career, I engaged in this work stolidly and without much fuss. In the cultures I was raised in, we were not rewarded for speaking up, or speaking out. So I focused on doing the work, and letting the work speak for itself. This led many to say, when I began speaking out about the awful actions by the Trump Administration, and the awful behavior by Trump himself, that I had “found my voice.”

This could not be further from the truth. I chose to use my voice. I couldn’t stand by while the Trump administration ripped children out of the arms of their parents, incited white supremacists, and packed the nation’s courts with demagogues who would later overturn Roe v. Wade . His bullying behavior, and his interest in tearing our country apart by our differences, instead of investing in the diversity that makes us stronger, had to be called out.

This interest in exposing our differences was never limited to Donald Trump. This is the GOP’s agenda. It was there in the way they embraced calling COVID-19 “the China virus,” it was there when they spoke out against President Biden’s intention to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court, and it is still there now, as they stonewall Julie Su, an Asian American woman immigrant nominated to serve as Secretary of Labor.

As long as Republicans — whether in the House, the Senate, or the supermajority of right wing ideologues on the Supreme Court — continue to try to tear us apart, I will continue to speak out bluntly about the danger they pose to the AANHPI community, immigrants, and other vulnerable groups.

John, my work has always been powered by grassroots supporters like you, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Please consider splitting a donation between my reelection campaign and HER Time today to help us protect our razor-thin Democratic majority and ensure we can keep fighting together in the U.S. Senate.
