The U.S. has never defaulted on its debt, in the entirety of our country’s existence. But come June 1, such an unprecedented disaster could become reality with Congressional Republicans currently holding our economy hostage.

Instead of coming to the table to negotiate a clean debt ceiling increase, the GOP is demanding massive cuts to public education, children’s health care, food assistance programs, veterans benefits, and much more.

These political games are shameful, and downright dangerous. According to non-partisan analysts, failing to raise the debt ceiling could lead to millions of lost jobs and plunging home prices.

It’s time Republicans stop holding our economy hostage and come to a resolution to avoid economic catastrophe. Add your name if you agree:

The far-right has made its priorities clear once again: They’re only concerned with grandstanding and scoring political points, not helping the people they were elected to represent.

American jobs and businesses are on the line here, and time is quickly running out before we default on our debt.

We need leaders in Congress who will put people before politics. That’s exactly what I promise to do. Until then, I hope you’ll join me in calling for action.

Add your name to tell the GOP to stop playing politics with our livelihoods – the consequences could be catastrophic.
