When news broke that Clarence Thomas had been secretly accepting luxury vacations from Harlan Crow and living it up on his private estate with major Republican donors like Leonard Leo, we were outraged. Not just because partying on a yacht makes us jealous, but because we all knew that these trips were not actually free.
We all know what Crow and Leo were paying for: Thomas's vote.
Are we just supposed to believe that business before the Supreme Court was never discussed? That no one with a glass of brandy in a smoke-filled room leaned over and asked Thomas if he could just "be a pal?"
The only way we may ever know is if the Senate subpoenas Clarence Thomas and Harlan Crow. In two clicks, email your senators and tell them to fully investigate and subpoena them.

It would be naive to think Clarence Thomas was immune from persuasion. In fact, thanks to some additional reporting on their relationships, it sure looks like he wasn’t.
Decades ago, Thomas wrote opinions in favor of Chevron deference—a legal principle that basically says that courts should defer to how federal agencies choose to write regulations carrying out vaguely written laws. The agency knows best—not the courts. The problem: Leo and Harlan actively oppose Chevron deference. They don’t want federal agencies writing strict regulations that stop pollution, limit corporations, and protect workers.
So then doesn't it seem suspicious that after years of yacht trips and private jet rides with Crow and Leo, that Clarence did a total 180 on his previous opinion? Thomas now openly doubts the constitutionality of Chevron, and the Supreme Court stands poised to overturn it all together. That seems like an awfully big windfall for his yacht buddies.
Clarence Thomas is a puppet, and powerful, rich conservative operatives are holding his strings. If Harlan Crow and Leonard Leo want a decision made or precedent reversed, it seems all they need to do is call up their good friend Clarence Thomas to get it done. That’s not how the Supreme Court is supposed to work.
The American people deserve answers. Send an email now, and demand the Senate launch a full investigation and subpoena Clarence Thomas and Harlan Crow.
