John,
On Thursday, I stood outside the Capitol alongside Sen. Warnock and other gun safety advocates for a press conference addressing this crisis facing our nation. You can watch the whole video here.
As I said on the Hill, parents in Uvalde have been learning to live without their children for almost a year now. Families in Buffalo have survived 365 days without their loved ones. I know their pain – the anguish feels eternal.
To any survivors who may be reading this, let me tell you: for the first time in a decade, I did not cry on Mother’s Day this year. My grief was and is immense, but I’ve carried on Jordan’s legacy in the work that I’m doing today.
I’m grateful to Sen. Warnock and all the other folks who spoke on Thursday. It’s a reminder that we’re all in this fight together.
In fact, new data shows that Americans are united on this issue. An Axios-Ipsos poll shows that access to guns is the number one public health concern in the country.
To all the Republicans in power – and the gun lobbies that back them – who are pushing back against our efforts for common-sense gun reforms, I ask you to listen to the American people here. Thoughts and prayers are not stopping the carnage.
As I said on the Hill, faith without works is dead. Prayers without action are hollow.
I won’t stop fighting for gun violence prevention until no more families have to live in fear of their loved ones being gunned down at a moment's notice. I hope you’ll join me in my efforts.
With love,
Lucy McBath
