Friends, how’s it going?
Between keeping up with my constituents at home, managing the day-to-day responsibilities of my job in Washington, D.C., joining delegations abroad, and of course, running for re-election - it’s safe to say that things are bananas over here!
Before we get to a whole host of House updates, a quick note on my re-election campaign: My team is always tracking our budget, and they reminded me that no matter how much I’d like to focus on other things, fundraising is a critical part of winning next November - so I’ve got to prioritize it. If you can, please chip in $7 - or any amount that’s meaningful to you - as we close in on our May deadline.
OK - now let’s talk about what’s been going on in Washington and on the House floor over the past month:
-
I was so excited to reintroduce my data privacy bill, the My Body, My Data Act - an essential piece of legislation that will protect our reproductive and sexual health data from being weaponized and used against us.
-
I called on the Biden Administration to direct more funds to local organizations and partners along the California-Mexico border to ensure asylum seekers fleeing violence and bloodshed are treated in a humane and orderly way.
-
I voted against H.R 2 (the extreme GOP border legislation) that would end the asylum system, strip away all protection for unaccompanied children, and cement the very worst Trump border policies, like indefinite family detention.
- I’m a proud co-lead of the Child Care for Every Community Act, which would cap costs for child care so that more families can access affordable, quality care.
- I introduced the bipartisan Drug Shortage Prevention Act, which will help prevent essential drugs like children’s Tylenol, Motrin, and Adderall from running out, protecting the health and well-being of kids, parents, and our communities.
-
And of course, I voted against House Republicans’ reckless debt ceiling demands that would gut federal services like Medicaid, Medicare, food assistance, preschool and child care - while also increasing costs for housing, college, and more.
That was a lot!
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your support through all of this. Whether you’re reading these emails, showing up during key moments, donating when you’re able to give, or all of the above - you make a huge impact, especially when I’m getting closer and closer to next year’s election.
If you’re as energized as I am to take back the House in 2024 and keep our progress moving, please chip in to support my re-election campaign.
If this is what we accomplished in the last few weeks – just think about all we can do together once we regain our Democratic majority!
Thank you so much for being here.
