John,

When I was sworn in as the first female governor of South Carolina over 12 years ago, it was one of the greatest honors of my life.

But, winning this race didn’t come easy…

From the day I launched my campaign for governor, the odds were stacked against me. I was the least known candidate and the least funded. I was told I was too brown, too female, and too young. I was the outsider and the underdog, but that didn’t stop me.

Just months before the primary, I was polling in fourth place, but I never gave up. South Carolina took a chance on me, and I won.

It wasn’t the first time South Carolina took a chance on me. When I ran against a 30-year incumbent for the state legislature, some people said I didn’t stand a chance. But the people of my district heard my message and knew I would fight for them. They took a chance on me, and I won. Then, I proved I deserved to be there and they reelected me.

I’ve never lost a race. Being the underdog hasn’t stopped me before, and it’s certainly not going to stop me now. But I need people like you to take a chance on me just like the people of South Carolina did. I need your support to pull this off.

Please pitch in a generous contribution of $25 or more to help me fund my campaign for president.

South Carolina took a chance on me because they saw we shared the same values – a love of country and a determination to defend it. They knew I would fight for them and make their voices heard. I would put people over politics. I would fight for the values our country was founded on…And that’s exactly what I did.

My dedication to stand for America was instilled in me from a young age. I’m the proud daughter of Indian immigrants who came here legally. Growing up the only Indian family in a small southern town, we faced stares and judgment. No one knew who we were, what we were, or why we were there. But over time, people learned to move past our differences and focus on what made us the same.

It wasn’t always easy to navigate being a brown girl in a black-and-white world, but my parents taught me that even on our worst day, we were blessed to live in the greatest country on earth.

I ran for governor to make sure every South Carolinian could experience the freedom, hope, and opportunity America has to offer.

When I won, I proved I deserved to be there.

I never backed down from my fight to make our state stronger and stand for freedom. I went against the status quo and fought for legislation that actually made a difference in all areas from government transparency, to voter id laws, to the economy, to our fighting for our children’s education.

The lessons that I’ve learned throughout my lifetime are the lessons that I will carry with me everywhere I go. America is always worth fighting for, and I will do everything in my power to protect the values she stands for.

That’s why I am continuing my fight to stand for America as I run to be your next president. But it is going to take all hands on deck to defeat Joe Biden and put our country back on track.

It’s up to us to make it happen. That’s why I need to know, will you take a chance on me just like the great state of South Carolina did?
