Hi folks,
The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate of comparable nations, and it’s only getting worse with time – maternal mortality rates have risen in recent years, even though more than 80% of these deaths are preventable.
Racial disparities in maternal health outcomes are growing wider, too. In 2021, the maternal mortality rate for Black women was more than 2.6 times higher than that of white women.
We cannot ignore this maternal health crisis any longer. So this week, I joined Senator Cory Booker and others in introducing the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act – legislation that will save lives.
Will you join me in fighting for the health of mothers and infants by adding your name to my petition to support this legislation? Let’s send a message that moms and babies should NOT die needlessly in the most advanced nation in the history of the world.
The legislation will do a lot to help those who are suffering by:
- Investing in areas that directly influence maternal health, like housing, transportation, and nutrition.
- Funding infrastructure to grow the perinatal workforce so every mom receives quality care and support.
- Supporting community-based organizations on the ground that serve populations who are most at risk of experiencing poor health outcomes.
Put simply, the impact of this bill will protect the health of moms and babies. So we need to get it done.
Thanks for supporting this critical work — together, we can save lives.
