John, on Friday I joined the picket line with striking Writers Guild of America West members in Los Angeles.

The turnout and community support for the writers on strike was tremendous.

The message we sent across Los Angeles and beyond was clear — we’re in a new era of streaming, and it’s imperative that workers are compensated and treated fairly.

The WGA fight for better pay and wage protections will shape this industry for decades. Their fight is vital to ensuring a decent livelihood for those who make the entertainment industry such a creative powerhouse. And jobs in California.

I’ve represented many of these writers in my district for decades. But this is also personal to me — picketing alongside my brother David and leaders like WGAW President Meredith Stiehm and former president Chris Keyser, all of us standing in solidarity to fight for a fair deal.

The bottom line is that workers need a deal that includes good salaries and keeps our favorite TV and movie productions afloat. Film, TV, and music all depend on human creativity and imagination, and without the writers, there would be no heroes, no villains, no stories to make us laugh or cry. Nothing but static on the TV or big screen.

We turned out on the picket line to say that as technologies change, and AI becomes a more dominant force, that workers need to be protected. And that on Star Trek Day, we want everyone in this industry to be able to live long and prosper.

This isn’t the end of the writers’ strike. They are going to need our support from here on out to collectively bargain for a fair deal. But I know they can get it done. I saw their determination on Friday. And I believe that with folks like this leading the way, we can create a better future for all workers across the country.

Because this isn’t just about writers, or the entertainment industry. This is really about the changing workplace all across the nation, and the need to make sure that as technologies change, workers are not left behind. And that the economy needs to work for everyone.

Thanks for taking the time to catch up on this important issue and campaign update. I’ll send you more from the road soon.

All the best,

Adam
