John,

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

Tuesday was Primary Election Day! First, we congratulate our GOP statewide judicial ticket, including Supreme Court nominee Judge Carolyn Carluccio, Superior Court nominees Judge Harry Smail and Maria Battista, and Commonwealth Court nominee Megan Martin. I also congratulate the many local GOP candidates on their successful campaigns. Wins in November 2023 will translate to wins in November 2024.

This week we recognized our brave first responders during National Police Week; House Republicans are standing with our nation’s brave law enforcement officers. I was pleased to be an original cosponsor of the POLICE Act, which makes assaulting a member of law enforcement a deportable offense for an illegal immigrant. This is common sense. I joined Rob Finnerty and Alex Kraemer on “Wake Up America” on NEWSMAX TV to discuss the POLICE Act. Click here or below to watch my interview.

I made comments on the floor of the United States House to honor and thank the brave men and women of law enforcement. Our communities appreciate all you do to protect and serve our region. As the son of a former police detective, I will always Back the Blue. Click here or below to watch my comments.

House Republicans have a responsible plan to address the debt ceiling. It will LIMIT spending, SAVE taxpayers money, and GROW the economy. However, we cannot simply write a blank check for the Biden Administration. We must get our fiscal house in order. I joined “The Claman Countdown” on Fox Business to discuss the current debt ceiling situation. Click here or below to watch my interview.

The House Financial Services Committee conducted further oversight surrounding the recent bank failures. We will continue to call regulators and bank executives before the Committee to ensure we protect the American people from mismanaged financial institutions. Click here or below to watch my remarks.

The serious concerns about the U.S. Small Business Administration's changes to the 7(a) Loan Program are bipartisan across both chambers of Congress.
Such significant and misguided changes deserve methodical oversight and discussion, especially when they potentially put taxpayer dollars at risk. I addressed these concerns at a recent hearing. Click here or below to view.
Additionally, I questioned the former bank CEOs of Silicon Valley, First Republic, and Signature. The Financial Services Committee is determined to uncover why these institutions folded and how Congress can help prevent future closures to protect American taxpayers. Click here or below to watch my remarks.

As the co-chair of the newly-formed Congressional Coal Caucus, we conducted our inaugural meeting.

This week, I enjoyed meeting with the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers to discuss issues affecting their industry and how their work supports residents and small businesses in our region.

I applaud the organization’s efforts to preserve, promote, and protect the community banking industry.

IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: If you look at the number of “gotaways” under the Biden administration compared to past presidents, the statistics are alarming.

How unsecure is the border under Joe Biden? The number of known “gotaways” – illegal immigrants who cross the border, evade law enforcement, and escape into the country – paints a very troubling picture.

There have been over 1.4 million “gotaways” since Joe Biden took office. But how does that compare to his predecessors? The average number of “gotaways” has skyrocketed under Joe Biden.

Reminder: that is a conservative estimate. Worryingly, experts warn that there’s a reason why “gotaways” avoid law enforcement, and it’s because many are bad actors with bad intentions, either bent on hurting Americans or smuggling people and drugs over the border.

The story remains that the border is not secure and worse than ever under the Biden administration.

Around the District:

I was pleased to join the Benjamin and Nickles families at the grand opening of Country Fresh Market & Hardware in Benton. This is a beautiful, family-run market and hardware store with the freshest of meats and produce and wide-ranging stock in the hardware section. I will be shopping there!

Anytime we can celebrate a new family business opening is a great day. Ribbon cuttings like this highlight the important relationship between small businesses and community banks. Thank you to FHLBank Pittsburgh and First Columbia Bank & Trust Co. for helping make the opening of this new small business possible.

It was fitting that later that afternoon, I was able to participate in a financial services roundtable this afternoon with community bankers to discuss actions Congress is taking to support their important work. Community banks provide a vital service to residents and small businesses in our region. I want to thank FHLBank Pittsburgh for facilitating this conversation.

While I was in Benton this week, it was great to stop by Vine Pharmacy with State Rep. Robert Leadbeter and chat with the owner, Charlotte Moss, about the issues facing independent local pharmacies. We appreciate all you do to serve the needs of our community!

Yesterday, we recognized the service and sacrifice of
members of the United States Armed Forces. Our servicemembers’ devotion to a cause greater than self is why we are the Land of the Free.

Today, I attended the celebration of Davis Chant, who recently passed away. Davis was a great, great man... great father, incredible businessman and real estate developer, friend, leader, and supporter. Don't really didn’t get any better than Davis. He will be seriously missed by all.

We look forward to catching up with you next week. God Bless, and see you soon,
