“In all my professional experience as a doctor, I have never seen so many pregnant women in this situation.”

That’s what Dr. Equibal Abílio told us, an OB-GYN currently providing medical support at a cholera treatment center in Mozambique.

Mozambique is recovering from Tropical Cyclone Freddy — which brought widespread flooding to Southeast Africa, killing 183 people, leaving more than 640,000 homeless, and triggering the worst cholera outbreak in decades.

31,000 pregnant women have been impacted. They are especially vulnerable to the cholera outbreak since the contagious illness increases the risk of stillbirth and maternal death.

Time is of the essence for tens of thousands of pregnant women across Mozambique. Rush an emergency gift today, and we will DOUBLE MATCH your contribution toward lifesaving resources for women and girls.

Women do not stop getting pregnant and having babies when crisis strikes. That’s why delivering lifesaving care to women and girls in Mozambique is so critical.

“Provided with technical support, training and supplies, we were able to respond to the situation to minimize complications,” Dr. Abílio said.

With 55 maternity wards destroyed in the hardest hit areas, UNFPA helped set up cholera treatment facilities for pregnant women to receive specialized care without risk of contagion.

We’re on the ground distributing dignity kits and reproductive health kits, and setting up temporary health facilities in tents to continue providing maternal and newborn health services amid the catastrophe.

Please, donate $55 (our average contribution) today and your gift will be generously matched to double your impact. Every second counts as we respond to crises in Mozambique and across the globe.

Thank you for taking action. We cannot stop thinking of the women and girls whose needs are too often overlooked during times of conflict.
