Alabama residents win sewage settlement under civil rights law

A parasitic disease long thought eradicated in the US re-emerged in Lowndes County, AL, where basic sanitation remains unaffordable for many. Yet it was the Black homeowners who were penalized. Now, after a long legal battle, the people of Lowndes County are getting justice.

Asian American farmers have a rich history of contribution to the U.S. food economy that dates back to the late 1800s. Despite this longstanding legacy, they are absent from many people’s perception of the country’s agricultural heartland.

Now is the time to speak up for climate forests

America’s mature and old-growth forests — natural climate solutions that remove and store large amounts of carbon from the atmosphere — could win stronger protections if enough people weigh in to urge federal action.

The United States Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recently released an inventory of mature and old-growth forests, a crucial first step in protecting these climate forests. We need to keep the pressure on and build broad support for a strong, long-lasting national rule that protects mature and old-growth trees across federal lands from logging.
