Your May Briefing from the Liberal Democrats. | | Latest Sewage News | This week water companies apologised for their appalling track record of dumping sewage and launched a programme to clean up their act. Given the scale of the problem, itās just not good enough.
Only some of the executives have pledged to give up their bonuses - while working families are likely going to see an increase in their water bills.
And weāre all waiting for the apologies from the other people to blame⦠the Environment Secretary and the Conservative MPs who have allowed this to happen.
We will continue our campaigning to put right this unjust and environmental scandal. | | | - Sewage Latest

| | | Our Outstanding Local Election Results | Two weeks ago, Liberal Democrats experienced a ground-breaking set of Local Election results - our best results in decades.
We won over 20% of the national vote, gained majority control of 12 councils, held on to all 17 councils we already controlled and made net gains in over 100 councils.
1,628 Liberal Democrat councillors were elected, a net gain of 407.
The message from these elections is clear: people are fed up with being let down and taken for granted by this Conservative Government - it is time for a change.
Thank you to everybody who was involved! Now, we must focus on the upcoming General Election for which we have now built a fantastic foundation. | | | Standing up for Carers Weāre thrilled that Wendy Chamberlain MPās Carerās Leave Bill completed its final stage in Parliament yesterday.
2.4 million unpaid carers will now have the statutory right to take five days of unpaid leave per year, helping carers to better balance work and care.
This is a fantastic step forward in our campaign to stand up for carerās rights - well done and thank you to all involved!
This yearās Carers Week starts on 5th June - a great opportunity for us all to celebrate the army of carers across the country who are the backbone of our society, doing so much to look after others.
If you are a carer - thank you for everything you do. We will continue to champion you and stand up for your rights. | | Tackling soaring food prices The cost of an average weekly shop is up £600 per year and people are struggling to just afford the basics.
While out-of-touch Conservatives are spouting insulting āpearls of wisdomā for households to deal with the soaring food prices, such as simply not buying cheese and opting for value products, the Liberal Democrats have real plans for tackling this problem. | | | Ed Davey on love, loss and Lib Dems | If you didnāt see it earlier in the week, Ed Davey MP was interviewed by the Guardian - and it is well worth taking some time to read. Ed discusses the local elections, the history of the party, and our future - as well as a very open and honest look at his home life and how it has shaped him, and his politics. | | | The interview has been very well received and has convinced people to join the Party for the first time - just like Dr Elena Liquete from Wiltshire did!

Liberal Democrats are calling for a comprehensive package to support the mental health needs of health and social care staff, including:
ā±ļø Introduce waiting time standards
š£ļø Increase access to a clinically effective talking therapies
ā« Increase the number of mental health practitioners | | | It's nearly Pride Month | This Wednesday was the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), and on 1st June, Pride Month will begin!
These events gives us an important opportunity to acknowledge the violence and discrimination that too many LGBT+ people face, reflect on what we can do to help change it, and celebrate the LGBT+ community.
Liberal Democrats stand for equality and we use moments like these to renew our commitment to fight for the safety and protection of those affected by discrimination. | | | | Work for Us | Weāve got a wide variety of vacancies - both paid and voluntary - currently available.
