These starving horses deserve better, and we’re fighting to save them.

John,

They should have received life-long care and sanctuary. Instead, dozens of horses suffered neglect at the hands of a so-called “rescue” organization which was entrusted to protect them.

An emaciated and starved horse named Enduring Grace

For over 30 years, the California Equine Retirement Foundation (CERF) accepted donations with the stated mission of rehabilitating horses and providing them a forever home. But according to witnesses, the horses residing at CERF were being neglected — underfed to the point of starvation, with untreated medical conditions that caused suffering and death.

John, these horses are victims of animal cruelty — and we will pursue every legal avenue to ensure their safety and win justice on their behalf. We need your help to fight this legal battle, save these horses, and spare countless other animals from suffering a similar fate.

One former CERF volunteer claimed that a horse named Eagle Rock suffered for five days, after showing signs of a fatal digestive disorder, before dying without ever seeing a veterinarian. In fact, last year 44 horses were removed from CERF’s property amid these allegations. But CERF has refused to allow the remaining horses — approximately 20 of them — to be removed.

This case underscores the urgent need for horses and other animals to be granted greater legal protections. We’re fighting for those protections every single day, but we — and the animals — need you beside us. Please donate now.

For the animals,

Stephen Wells, Executive Director
