john,

Economic turmoil. Rising interest rates. Cuts to essential programs like Social Security. Millions of job losses across the country.

That’s only part of what’s at stake if the US defaults on its debt because extremist MAGA Republicans are willing to tank the economy to deprive children and seniors of food benefits and services like Meals on Wheels.

Kevin McCarthy didn’t blink when the GOP raised the debt ceiling for Donald Trump. But now, he’s holding the entire economy hostage unless Democrats accept his demands to steal benefits from working families, seniors, and kids.

That’s unacceptable, and it’s why I led my Senate colleagues in urging President Biden to prepare to invoke the 14th Amendment to bypass Republicans’ bad-faith negotiations and avoid a catastrophic default.

Join me, john, and cosign our letter to President Biden by adding your name here. Let him know the American people don’t negotiate with insurrectionist MAGA Republicans who are holding our economy hostage >> [[link removed]]

This is not an abstract problem. If Kevin McCarthy and MAGA Republicans cause default, it would be an unprecedented, worldwide economic catastrophe with long-term consequences for the American economy.

McCarthy’s demand is that in order to avoid default, we have to throw people and children off of health care and take away their food assistance.

But that’s a false choice, and we won’t fall for it. We simply don’t need to attack people who are struggling just to make ends meet in order to avoid default.

Republicans raised the debt ceiling three separate times under President Trump, and they can do it again right now.

But if they do not, President Biden must prepare to invoke the 14th Amendment to avoid economic collapse and stop cuts to essential programs. Add your name if you agree. [[link removed]]

Thanks for adding your voice, and I’ll keep you posted on our progress.
