Great news for Ranked Choice Voting! Yesterday, the Minnesota House and Senate passed the State Government Omnibus bill with a study on how to implement Ranked Choice Voting in our state –– the most significant legislative progress on RCV in Minnesota.
The State Government Omnibus bill sets up a study led by the Secretary of State, and in consultation with election administrators and other stakeholders, to examine how best to implement RCV in Minnesota for local and state elections. It is thanks to you and your activism that made this possible. THANK YOU.
Now it’s on to the Governor’s desk for signing!
We are pleased to see this progress on Ranked Choice Voting, but there is, of course, more work ahead. We are disappointed the local option did not pass this year and next session we will work to pass this local control measure giving more local jurisdictions the authority to adopt RCV as well as more concrete steps towards expanding RCV statewide. Between now and then, we will be providing voter education in cities that use RCV and ensuring another successful RCV election season. Stay tuned for updates on the launch of our voter education program and how you can help!
Thank you for sticking with us through this intense legislative session and for your time, contributions and advocacy in support of RCV. Together we will continue to advance this important reform in our state and our country.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Massey
