Click here Meeting the Angel Behind the LettersFor 20 years, Soldiers' Angels volunteers have supported deployed Service Members with care packages and letters-- an effort to ensure that the deployed are remembered, supported, and uplifted (and also get the thrill of hearing their name called during mail call!). These acts of kindness are the heart and soul of our Angel volunteers. The Angels send these items off into the ether knowing full well that they may never know the true impact the items will have. But that doesn't stop the heart of kindness. Angels keep sending and supporting. Many deployed Service Members earn the title "Silent Service Member" because they never respond letting the Angels know they received the letters or care packages. It's never expected for them to respond-- their focus should be on their mission-- but that just means that when an Angel finally hears back, it is truly something special. This was the case for Angel Jasmine and her Service Member. "Last year I wrote a letter to a soldier [through Soldiers' Angels Letter Writing Team], and with God’s perfect timing it arrived on his birthday! He wrote me back and we became fast friends and pen pals, chatting nearly every day of his deployment. My family and I took a road trip this spring and had the honor of meeting up with him and his family for a lovely afternoon in the park. I know most of our Service Members are silent so
just thought this would encourage everyone!" To those Angels supporting Silent Service Members-- don't get discouraged! Your support means more than you may ever know! We receive messages regularly from Service Members who were supported 10, 15, or even 20 years ago and are now circling back trying to track down the Angel who impacted them. Your support makes a tremendous impact now and forever. Honoring a WWII Veteran In our recent blog, and in honor of Military Appreciation Month, Soldiers' Angels volunteer Geri shares memories about her Great Uncle Don and the wild stories he would tell when she was a child. It wasn't until later in life Geri understood those stories were from WWII Italy. Do you have a family member you would like to write about or share about? Tell us about it here! Sending Sunshine Isn't this Box of Sunshine the cutest? This is the 5th care package for a deployed Service Member that Angel Karen has created and she shared that she's "getting better and more crafty each month." We couldn't agree more! Great job, Angel Karen and all of our Angels! Thank you all for sending sunshine to our deployed!
